Is going surfing getting stale? We have the prescription for you!

Surfing is all about perspective. The classic old saying of “the best surfer is the one having the most fun” couldn’t ring more truly than in these COVID-19 times.

Surfing can feel stale at times. All surfers will experience this many times throughout their lives, the sooner you can acknowledge to yourself that you are falling into a stale rut, the sooner you can start building the ladder to climb out of it.

The easiest way to change things up is by riding different equipment. Committing to riding a board you may think is ‘weird’ will have challenge you in a variety of waves and has the power to heighten your focus on other aspects of going surfing and riding waves.

Flat on surfing? Leave that shortboard at home, throw a Mal, fish, single fin, twin, soft top, whatever you can get your hands on in the car and commit to a session on it. For best results, the Surf Better Now doctors recommend 3-5 servings (surfs) consecutively on alternate craft.

If symptoms persist, wear a new wetsuit or surf a completely different venue than usual.

At the end of the day, surfing is a powerful tool for inner joy. Don’t take yourself too seriously and remember that it’s all about fun.

This video below features Adam Robertson riding multiple ‘alternate boards’ to break up the run of shortboard monotony he was running through at the time.
